LAUREL, MD (December 31, 2008): Repairs to the 66-inch water main that broke in the 8500 block of River Road in Bethesda are nearly finished. Crews replaced a total of 80-feet of pipe and are preparing to backfill the hole later today.
River Road will reopen to traffic this evening. Crews will still be working in the area, performing restoration work and commuters could experience some traffic flagging operations as the work continues.
The water main broke on December 23. The investigation into the cause of the break continues and is expected to take several weeks. Pieces of the pipe will be analyzed as part of a forensic investigation of the rupture. WSSC will keep area residents informed through the media and our home page at www.wsscwater.com.
